Drowning in the Dark

i’m drowning
in a dark dank pool
it’s black cold hands
clutch and grab at me
holding and pulling me down
deeper and
           deeper
                   until all light fades

grey shadows surround me
watching
watching with gleaming eyes
and laughing grins
as i struggle to break free

once in a while
a shadow leans in to
‘help’
they gently take my frozen hand
as hope blossoms
and light begins to shine

start to pull me out of the stifling darkness
then suddenly
with a harsh laugh
release me to tumble back into
the stagnant water
where i sink
deeper than before

the shadows laugh
at my desperate plight
as
i sink faster
to the
bottomless depths of depression
no air no light no feeling
just numb
      as my scarred fragile heart
shatters into tiny pieces
in the end
i wonder
why everyone leaves me?
