When we get stressed and life’s not great
They say it helps to meditate
To sit down in some quiet place
To deeply breath and slow our pace
And hum a note ‘til it vibrates
Inside and out it resonates.
It seems to work quite well enough
Those Tibetan monks sure know their stuff
But I’d love to ask them, should we speak
Just where they picked up this technique
I quite suspect they’d tell me that
They learned it from a monastery cat!
For when I see a cat at rest
All its wants and needs addressed
Belly full and fur licked straight
With time to sit and contemplate
Paws tucked under in repose
A low, soft rumble through the nose
Nobody can tell me this
Is not how felines reach their bliss
Quiet mind and happy heart
Masters of the meditative art
If it works for those with whiskers and fur
Do not underestimate the power of the purr
