a common song to fathers
My Father

My father sits on my shoulder.
And he whispers in my ear.
All those words I never heard,
Now, I hold them dear.

I walk in shoes too large for me.
My legs, they feel like lead.
The spark that someone said I had,
Short circuits in my head.

So hard to put the pieces back.
The puzzle has no guide.
We never know just when they'll leave,
Those fears we try to hide.

His words that pushed me on with rage,
Today, they bring a smile.
All these days when he is gone,
I walk a lonely mile.

Now, as I near our common path,
His hands I knew to mold me.
They reach out far and reach out wide.
They reach out now to hold me.
