Some memories are more difficult than others. Circa: late 1950's
Where did they hide her,
where did she go
Little girl in the darkness,
little girl all alone

They're coming: the chaos,
the confusion and fear
They have to hide her,
behind the boxes of beer

Boxes and boxes,
filled with bottles of beer
All piled high,
to hide the girl full of fear

All alone with the spiders,
the rats and the dirt
The little girl stays,
so she won't get hurt

So very long,
such a long time
to be alone in the darkness
Just passing the time

Growing up in a tavern
is no place to be
For a child so young,
there is too much to see

She seen so much,
and she must not tell
She must run and hide
When the policemen come

It could be her parents
who are fighting again
And off to jail they
might go again

Why does this happen,
why does she stay?
she must stay in the darkness
So they don't take her away.
