This is my book
" Winters' occupation seems to have conquered, overrun and destroyed everything, so that there is no longer any resistance movement left in nature" - John Knowles

I was in the kitchen baking cookies when Chrona came running in, her face stark white. My instinct reaction was to ask her the obvious question, but before I could open my mouth there was a huge sound from the front door. I looked at her, she nodded and took off. I walked calmly over to the window and looked down. The dark Chicago street was quiet, save from the underlying bustle always in the air. There was a light right below the window and a tall man was checking out our car, a bemused expression on his face. I whipped around and ran into the hall, ideas bouncing through my head. Reaching Asher's room I wrenched open the door, slipped inside and snapped it shut.
Asher was sitting on his bed a pissed off look on his face, Chrona was up against the wall hands tensed on her legs. They looked up when I came in, eyes full of fear,
worry, and trust. Asher stood and said," So. They're here. What do we do?"
I glanced at the door, as if could tell me the solution. I heard nothing but the quiet
sound of our house slowly being torn apart.
I went over to the window and opened
it feeling aprehensive. Underneath the window the alley was clear but at either end was another tall man, these holding what looked like semi-automatic guns. Neither
seemed pleased to be there. I turned back to my friends. " I've see three but there
could be as many as six or seven. I say we take the ones downstairs. They won't be as expectant, but we can't take the car so we'll have to manage to get to the subway, alive."
Asher nodded and moved to his closet taking out three duffle bags, one for each of us filled with money, clothes and a little nonperishable food. We all breathed deep, saying our silent hope-you-make-it's with our eyes. The longer we stood there, the
greater the possibility they would find out that we were still in the house. I stepped
up to the door, braced myself, then swung it open.
It all started five years ago. I was twelve and personally I didn't care a rats ass
about world politics, but to my dad, an ex-Marine, cared very much. Darren
was an intern in the White House, ambitious and talented as is expected. Then one day, out of the fricken blue, he's magically amassed the largest army in the world. He'd been planning it for fifteen years, since he was twenty. Once it started, it accelerated and hasn't slowed down. Darren somehow convinced the worlds most powerful leaders to just drop arms and let him take over. Speculation is that he bribed like a bitch, and did a few favors, not all pleasant to think about, but all effective.
