Isabella is starting her freshman year with a new responsibilty, being a teen mom.
I woke up this morning to hear loud crashes of thunder and hail hitting off of my window. This was the perfect way to start off the last day of summer vacation. School was going to be starting tomorrow and I was super excited. It was going to be my freshman year which meant one thing. Parties! Here in California parties are very popular every Friday night at least one person has one. But enough with the party stuff for now. Today my best friend and I are going to go shopping for school stuff and I want to talk to her about something that’s been bugging me for a while. A couple weeks ago Alyssa and I went to an “end of summer” party. There were a lot of people there but one person stood out. It was a boy named Brayden. He was tall, dark hair, seemed nice so we went over to talk to him. “Hey” I said to him.
“Hi, I’m Brayden,” He said.
“I’m Isabella and this is my best friend Alyssa.”
“Nice to meet you guys,” He said.
“Yeah. Same here,” Alyssa replied.
It was an awkward silence after that. Nobody was talking it was pretty much complete silence. Alyssa told me she was going to go see who else was here and then she left. So there I was all alone with Brayden. It was so weird neither of us was talking so I had to break the silence. “So, do you go to our high school?”
“Yeah, this is my second year there.” he replied.
“Oh, so you’re a sophomore?”
“Yeah, what about you?” he said.
“I’ll be a freshman this year.”
“Oh cool. Maybe I’ll see you around then.”
“Yeah, maybe,” I said,
“Hopefully,” he mumbled quietly.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing,” he replied.
“Oh, Ok. Well I should probably go find Alyssa now.”
“Oh uh ok I’ll see you around then,” he said.
“Yeah, see ya” I said as I walked away.
I was looking everywhere for Alyssa but I couldn’t seem to find her. It was pitch black and I somehow ended up in the woods. It was now starting to rain and I was lost and all alone. I started to run and I ran into something. I looked up and it was Brayden. “Oh, sorry” I said.
“It’s ok, don’t worry about it.” He said.
I started to walk away but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back toward him.
“Do you mind?” I asked.
“Sorry, I just wanted to ask you a question.” He said.
“Ok, what is it?”
“Do you have a phone?” he replied.
“Yeah,” I said.
“Can I have your number?”
“Sure.”
So I gave him my number and we started walking back towards the party. We talked for a while and decided that we were going to hang out next weekend. I finally found Alyssa and as soon as I did I said goodbye to Brayden then Alyssa and I headed home. She kept asking me if I liked Brayden and I think I do but I’m not sure yet. I talked to him all night and we learned a lot about each other. I couldn’t wait for the weekend to come but I would get to see him in school. I finally went to bed to wake up to a cold, damp first day of school. As I walked into school there he was, just standing there talking to his friends. I walked directly past him hoping he wouldn’t see me I wasn’t really in the mood to talk. But sadly he saw me and walked me to my locker. We talked there and made plans for this weekend. We decided we were going to go the movies then just hang out at my house.
Finally the weekend was here. I got up bright and early to start getting ready. He was picking me up at 12:00 and I had 3 hours to get ready. I did my hair and threw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie. He arrived 10 minutes early and by that time I was already ready. We went to the movies and then we came back to my house. We sat on the couch and talked for a while. My mom and dad were working and my brother and sister were at their friends’ house. After talking to Brayden one thing led to another and I think you can guess what happened next. He left at about 5 and I couldn’t believe what I had done. I was a good girl and careful at that but apparently this time I wasn’t.
A few weeks have passed and I haven’t been feeling good. The past couple mornings I’ve been throwing up and feeling nauseous all day long. The worst part about today was I had to go to school. When I got there I walked directly past Brayden and went to find Alyssa. I was telling her about how I’ve been getting sick and feeling nauseous all day. “Do you think you could be pregnant?” she asked.
“I don’t know there is a very good possibility.” I said.
“Well what are you going to do?” she asked.
“I really don’t know.” I said.
“Go talk to Brayden.” Alyssa said.
“No, I’m going to talk to my mom first.” I said.
The school day dragged on and it finally ended. I guess you could say I was kind of excited to go home, not so excited to tell my mom but I needed some help. When I got home my mom was sitting in the kitchen reading a magazine. “Mom, I have to talk to you.” I said
“Okay, what about?” she asked.
“I think I might be pregnant.”
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“I was at a party and some stuff happened.”
“Oh, well I will call your doctor then.”
“Okay,” I said as I walked towards my room.
My mom came upstairs about 15 minutes later and told me I had a doctor’s appointment at 5:00. I was scared and anxious at the same time. I just wanted to find out for sure before I talked to Brayden, which is if I decide to tell him. As I walked into the doctor’s office there were a ton of little kids in there I felt kind of weird but I didn’t know why. I waited in the waiting room for about a half hour and they finally called me back. “Isabella.” The nurse said loudly.
I got up and walked towards her. “How are you?” she asked.
“Fine, thanks” I replied.
“Go down this hallway and you’ll be the fifth door on the right.”
“Okay.” I said.
I walked into the room and there were one of those little hospital gowns. I put it on and waited for the doctor to come in. “Hello Isabella, I’m Dr. Sherry,” said the doctor.
“I’m Isabella.” I said.
She told me that she was going to be running some tests and then we would know if I was pregnant for sure. So we got through with all the tests and she told me to sit and wait for my results. About an hour later she came back in the room. “Well its official, you’re pregnant.” She said. Those two words hit me like a pound of bricks. This was really happening. I told her thank you for everything and I started to go home. My mom was waiting outside and I told her everything the doctor said. My mom then asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I didn’t want to get an abortion or give it up for adoption. So that left me with one thing, keeping the baby. It was going to be hard but I got myself into this mess so now I’m going to do what’s best for me and the baby. I know it’s going to be hard but I think I’ll be able to do it. As soon as I got home I called Alyssa and told her everything and she asked if I wanted her to come over, I told her yes. She arrived ten minutes after we got off the phone and we decided to go out for dinner. My mom drove us to Pizza Hut and told us to call whenever we were done. So we went inside got our seats and ordered our food and Alyssa said “Have you called Brayden yet?”
“No,” I said.
“You know you probably should” she said.
“I know I just don’t know if I should.”
“Call him now.” She said.
I picked up my phone and decided to text him instead. The text said “You’re probably going to be mad and I really don’t know how to tell you this but I’m pregnant.”
A few minutes later I got a reply that said “Well we got into this mess together and I’m going to be here for you throughout the whole thing.”
That was a relief, now I really had nothing to worry about. We called my mom to come pick us up and Alyssa decided to stay at my house that night. The next day we went to school and Brayden wasn’t there. I figured he was sick but before I knew it four months have passed and he hasn’t been in school nobody knows where he’s at. By now I’m six months pregnant and I have no idea where the baby’s dad is. I go to the doctors for my check up to find out how things are going. She said she timed things out wrong and I’m farther along than she thought. I’m not 6 months pregnant I’m eight and a half. I was shocked I really didn’t know what I was going to do now Brayden was nowhere to be found and I was going to be having this baby really soon. When I got home that night my mom and dad were talking and I told them what the doctor said and they started getting the baby’s room ready. A few weeks have passed now and I’ve been feeling weird so I went to the hospital and they told me I was having my baby tonight. Next thing I knew 5 hours have passed and I’m in horrible pain. They move me to the delivery room and the next thing everybody knew there was a screaming baby in the room. I did it; I just had a baby at 14 years old. Nobody heard from Brayden so I decided to text him “I just wanted to let you know I just had the baby, where are you.” I quickly got a response.
“Sorry I don’t want anything to do with this anymore, Goodbye.” And that is what he said.
Wow I thought to myself now life was going to be even harder. I knew I should text him back but it wasn’t worth it I really don’t want him in my life now. They let me go home after three days and I am exhausted. I’ve been getting up at 2:00 every morning to feed the baby and change his diaper. By the time he goes back to sleep it’s already time for me to get ready for school. I barely get any help from my parents and it’s really hard being a single teen mother.
It’s been a year since my baby boy was born and he is now walking, running to be exact, talking nonstop, and he is a very good baby. He sleeps all night and wakes up when I get up for school. I am now a sophomore with a new boyfriend who has been at my house every day after school to help out with the baby and he is also a big help to me. Brayden is out of the picture and not coming back in it, but it’s for the best. I love being a mom and I wouldn’t change a thing and I don’t regret anything but it’s hard the first couple months but now I’m getting the hang of things and there are still some challenges I face. Do I wish I would have waited? Sometimes I wish I did, but I didn’t and I’m living my life to the fullest now and I’m doing everything I possibly can to make sure my baby has a good life. So the only advice I have for you is to be careful and if you’re pressured into things you don’t want to do, just say no and walk away. Don’t give in to something that you really don’t want to do even if that person gets mad at you, it will save you a lot of trouble in the long run. But if you’re not pressured and you want to do things because everybody else is think about the consequences and things that come along with it.
