The power Of the Spoken Word |
The Power Of the Spoken Word Victims of verbal abuse Set yourself free I've only just realised what happened to me Took 46 years to see The scars left by family Hidden from view Not physical for all to see Low self esteem, my enemy Happened again quite recently But then I realised I was free That's the nature of it Unfortunately Lived with it for many years A legacy passed on to me In isolation, quiet despair I knew no better Was hiding from my fears Always smiling No one knew the isolation and the tears And family didn't visit me for years This is normal I would say I'd never known another way I must be bad I don't deserve But then one day I found my way Many books I'd read I fell in love Felt so afraid So studied hard To find my way I knew myself, I liked myself I held my head up high I took control Set new goals Respected my intentions So now I say to you out there Be aware And just say no To those who show that they don't care Just be yourself You have one life For those that matter do not mind And those who do don't matter Set your boundaries Know your values Accept no false beliefs You have one life You are unique Don't hide away, but speak Nothing can replace you Despite what others say So live your life in your own way Enjoying every day |
