The first chapter to Taylor's backstory.
Rainbow Veins

Chapter 1

Back where I come from, I'm coming home...

Chicago...often called the Windy City. It's a lovely place, full of wonderful people, places to go, and...mystery. Today, there is a trial taking place at the Chicago City Hall. The trial taking place today is that of a 17-year old Taylor Ruse, who has fatally injured her boyfriend with a stab wound. Today is the day where she will receive her final verdict.

In the air-conditioned court room, Taylor sat with her elbows on the table, and a bored, tired expression on her face. Her lawyer wasn't doing anything to help her in the least, and she was ticked off to no end. But it didn't show, as the judge slammed down his gavel.

"The jury finds the defendant guilty, of murder in the first degree. Ms. Ruse is therefore sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole." he said. Taylor rolled her eyes sarcastically. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Well, it wasn't like any of her family members would care for it anyway. They didn't even show up to argue her case. As her lawyer escorted her to the Illinois State Penitentiary, she spoke up as he led her to her cell.

"You were a WONDERFUL help back there, you know?" she asked. The man only threw his head back, with a dry reply of
"I try, Ms. Ruse, I try."

He then paused, and turned to face Taylor, with a boring expression. "Ms. Ruse, your cell. And please, try to contain your enthusiasm." he said, gesturing towards it.

"Oh, don't worry, Mr. Sarcastic Lawyer-Man. I can handle myself." Taylor said, with a sarcastic tone. As her lawyer left, she peered out from the bars at the other inmates she was incarcerated with. Serial killers...robbers...all the bad guys you could find, all holed up in one place. She sighed, as she sat in her one-person cell. Eventually, she fell asleep on the stiff bed, exhausted from the day's trial.

That very night, there was a huge crash, as Taylor and a few other inmates, chosen at random, were taken off into the night sky...

The next morning, the sun shone directly through the window of Taylor's cell. With a grumble, she woke up, and walked to the bars keeping her in, wrapping her hands around two of them. The first thing on her mind was...wait a second. This wasn't the same jail she'd remembered from the day before...where was she?

It hurt her head to even think of it. The brunette shook her head, and sighed as she sat on the cold, lonesome floor of the cell she was detained in. Her orange jumpsuit was really the only thing that could make her smile, for it always clashed with the yellow color of her shoes. Outside, she could hear the other inmates yelling profanities, beating each other up, and in some cases, ripping each other apart.

Taylor did a double-take as she realized that she was now wearing an orange jumpsuit. Last time, she'd been wearing her normal clothes. Okay, something wasn't right, and as soon as the prison warden came, she would tell him...or her.
Before she could examine her surroundings, a voice came out of nowhere.

"Hey y'all!"
Taylor immediately snapped out of her thoughts, and looked to see who was speaking. In front of her cell stood a white unicorn, about the same height as a full-grown Arabian horse. She leapt back, pressing herself against the wall of her cell. "HOLY SHIT! A UNICORN?! WHAT THE HELL AM I ON?!" she shouted.

Taylor took yet another deep breath, trying to calm herself down. Upon closer inspection, it had a messy pink mane, with pink hooves, and a hell of a long tail. I have to be dreaming. There are no such things as unicorns! Taylor thought, shaking her head as she walked over to the unicorn.

"...And just who are you?" Taylor asked cautiously. The unicorn laughed, and raised his head proudly.

"Why, I am the Warden's pet unicorn, Bob!" the unicorn said. Taylor was unimpressed. This definitely had to be some kind of sick, sick joke. First, she ended up in some jail out in the middle of freaking nowhere, and now she was seeing a unicorn??

"And just why are you here?" she finally asked, glaring at the unicorn as she grabbed the outer bars of her cell. Bob shook his head before looking back up at Taylor.

"The Warden told me to come on down here, and fetch y'all. Saysyou're a person of interest." Bob said.
"A person of interest? How could a...a...a murderer be a person of interest?" Taylor asked, having a hard time saying that particular word. The unicorn shrugged, and tossed his head back to fix his already messed-up hair. With some odd magical power, the cell door was unlocked, letting Taylor go free for the first time in months.

"Kay, now y'all gotta follow me, and--"

"FINALLY! See you later, sucker!" Taylor shouted, as she took off running down the hallway. However, something stopped her in her tracks, and brought her back to Bob. The unicorn's horn was glowing with some white hue, as it seemed to be controlling Taylor's every move. She was totally limp as a ragdoll in the air.

"There ain't gonna be any escapees, y'all. Now follow me, and we'll go to the Warden's office." Bob said sternly, as he continued to hold Taylor up in the air behind him, so that she could not run away.
The two ventured out of the room, and out into the open air of the prison yard. Taylor looked around curiously, as she had never been out here. There was an awful lot of mess around the place, and her instinctive "neat-freak" OCD told her to clean it up, but she couldn't move at all. With a sigh, Taylor continued to let Bob hold her in place.

When the two eventually made it to the Warden's office, Bob finally set Taylor down in front of him, and kicked the door shut. "Here's the girl." Bob said to the Warden. The man clad in purple swiftly turned to face the two in front of his desk.
"Ah, Taylor Ruse. How splendiferous!" he said. Taylor raised an eyebrow at the Warden. If he was the proprietor of this jail, she was sure that that wasn't how he would normally act.
"You wanted to see me?" she asked.

"Yes I did. You see, you're a person of great interest." the Warden said, giving her a malicious gap-toothed smile, as he pulled out a few papers from his desk.

"Says here that you committed one murder, and that's what landed you here. However, Jailbot and Alice both reported that you had only been in regular jail for under an hour before Jailbot took you here. Do you remember any of that?" the Warden asked curiously.

Taylor shook her head. "I can't remember anything after I pleaded guilty to the court." she said. The Warden shook his head.
"Let me rephrase that. Do you know why you're here, in SuperJail?" he asked.
"No."
"You're here not only because of your crime, but because you are...how can I put it...a... special asset." the Warden said. Taylor gave him a confused look.
"And what's that supposed to mean?"
