I wrote this poem the day my longtime bff proposed |
I replay that day, I told you a lie You walked away without a goodbye I watched as you walked, your hands balled in fists Tears down your cheek but I chose to enlist I couldn't say what I wanted to say I couldn't let you live life this way Waiting for someone to come to your door and tell you your husband died in the war I would give anything to be home with you to take back the day I told you we're through take you in my arms and tell you the truth every day begins and ends with you my days are long, and nights are longer and in my absence my love grows stronger Its hot and its humid, but I'm doing my best to make sure my mom doesn't put me to rest Regret is knowledge that comes too late and I knew I couldn't ask you to wait I couldn't say what I wanted to say I couldn't let you live life this way Waiting for someone to come to your door and tell you your husband died in the war I have buddies and Sirs, and letters from home Surrounded by people, but I feel so alone I'm writing this poem, to tell you the truth once and for all, its always been you. Your smile, your eyes, you Laugh your kiss just to name a few things I will miss I hope someone informed you, and nicely said while holding you tight "I'm sorry he's dead" I served my country, I served for you to honor and protect the country too this ring is for you, I was a coward if you want, I'll wait for you skyward Talk to my mom, she knows it all I did it to protect you, in case i would fall and I did and I hurt you, I hurt you again what I'm doing to you now, and what i did then. I couldn't say what i wanted to say I couldn't let you live life this way Waiting for someone to come to your door and tell you your husband died in the war |
