A thought-provoking poem about people's priorities.
People’s priorities are rather strange.
Everyone has them, which is fine.
Yours often will differ from mine.

Some make politics a high priority,
whereas others simply care not a whit;
even voting interests them not a bit.

Family is of highest priority to some
but is lowest in the mind of others.
A few care nothing for their mothers.

There’re people who devote their time,
money to saving stray dogs and cats,
unable to abide an animal suffering! That’s

odd because they will walk right past
a homeless child, never offering to help
feed or clothe her. Perhaps if she’d yelp …

Others make assisting America’s homeless
their priority, donating toward their care.
Great! But what of starving kids elsewhere?

Hunger kills 16,000 children worldwide each day.
That is one child dying every five seconds;
to six million children yearly starvation beckons.

The vast majority of these deaths would be
prevented, if they were fed. Yet, those in authority
haven’t made feeding starving children a priority.

We all get to set our own priorities, based
upon our view of where lies the most need.
The priorities we choose may be strange indeed.
