Chapter 3: Flight

The hall was dark, the enemy was close behind them and they had nowhere to go! They reached a large hallway with red tapestries hanging on the wall; they turned to face their pursuers. Galborn stood at the front of a large procession of men; he gleamed as he smiled at the thought of them having nowhere to go. “Ashtocen anuel ceneth svfendg en ton” Yelled Osnath! The men ran at them, swords gleaming and they struck! Fendor ducked under a blade and jabbed into a man’s thigh, but instead of screaming in agony the man grinned as his wound healed and then struck out and hit Fendor on his collar bone. He fell back and darkness fell over him, he caught glimpses of Osnath severing a head off a soldier and running to him and Enchon squeezed in a circle of men, trying to fight out and then there was a raw and everything was black as he continued into the void!
Osnath saw him fall and rushed to his aid, killed the strange man whose wound had healed as soon as it had been made and kneeling beside him, as Ashtocen flung men against the bright red, slick with blood, tapestries that now were ripped and torn and he listened to the wails of Galborn trying to get his men out of the hall. Then everything was quiet and all that was in the death filled room was the smell of blood, them and a horror stricken faced Galborn. He sneered and then turned and ran! Osnath looked down at the pale and dieing Fendor and looked grimly around, “Fendor is more than dead if we can’t get him to Zendafor to have him treated”. He turned around and picked up Fendor, “Grab that bow and those arrows, fill the sheath of arrows until it can fit no more and put it on your back, let’s leave come on”!
They ran down the hall of which they had come, Osnath stumbling as he tried to run with Fendor in his hands. They turned left and ran out into the yard, ahead of them was the gate and behind that, the road down into the city, their path! But in between them and the gate was a cohort of men and Galborn with a wide grin, “If you try to get the dragon to help you now, he would be shot to death, oh and he’s more than dead” Said Galborn a large grin on his face. “We will leave and you can’t stop us Galborn”, Yelled Enchon, he turned and shot an archer to the ground. A furious roar came from above and a gush of flames hit the wall Ashtocen flew away with several arrows in his belly. Galborn then ordered his men to surround them but several arrows whistled into the air and hit more archers. Enchon drew his bow and aimed at Galborn, “Your tyranny is about to end, Galborn prepare to enter eternal darkness”! Shouted Enchon. He shot the arrow but instead of killing Galborn it fell to the ground softly, now it was time for Galborn to act! Calling his men he advanced upon Osnath and Enchon, Enchon fired two arrows at the men on either side of Galborn, they fell dead instantly. The soldiers rushed in and in a flurry of movement there was some screams and a dead man was lying on the ground dead. Enchon struck out with his arrow, killing a man, put it on the bow and shot, killing another man! He put the bow away and took his spear from his belt and began to jab out, he swung hard, and throwing a man to the ground that was then killed by a powerful jab. A soldier ran at him he swung but too late his spear snapped and he could not use his bow! Osnath threw him his sword and Enchon killed the soldier. Galborn smiled as he saw Enchon fighting for his life, knowing that Enchon had but a few moments to live, but Enchon did not falter but kept fighting and finally the last remaining soldiers were running for their lives! Enchon faced Galborn who sneered and drew his sword, he ran at Enchon who arose grimly and parried his blow. Galborn bashed his face which made the bow and quiver fall off. Enchon was parrying fast but was slowing down in exhaustion and was about to be killed. Osnath grabbed up the bow and an arrow and just as Enchon was about to be killed, shot an arrow into Galborn’s shoulder. He fell back in pain, picking up Fendor and throwing the bow and quiver to Enchon, they ran! When they reached the bottom the soldiers were right behind them, they jumped on the horses and galloped off, followed closely by the troops! They charged through the city, avoiding as many people as possible and of course, the arrows. As they neared the gate out of the city of Vronbark many men ran to intercept them and there leader was the man in white! Arrows started to rain down upon them from the soldiers on the walls and they were completely defenseless! Enchon drew his sword and began to swing mightily, many men fell at this attack but more came. Enchon ducked under an arrow and leaned over the side to avoid a sword. He then pulled himself up and killed a soldier! There was some room to maneuver backwards so they started to back backwards and with a very large amount of speed, they galloped forward and jumped over the men and out of the city.
For hours they galloped, every now and again exchanging blows at soldiers and then speeding up. The horses grew tired and the soldiers were upon them! “Your treachery is not going to be helped Galborn, give up or die”, Yelled Enchon. They drew to a halt and faced their opponent. Galborn drew a sneer and asked, “How are you to get out of this one Osnath?” “With extreme ease you tyrant”! Replied Osnath. He rode towards Galborn and sneered at him! He drew his mount to a Gallop and jumped over him, smashing his skull, “Run”! He yelled and galloped towards Enchon! While Galborn was pulled to his mount they raced down the road! At the ford where they would head of the road to the elf city, Enchon drew to a halt! “They are coming, they must not find the city, Osnath, take Fendor and ride swiftly to the city with all haste”, He passed Fendor to Osnath. “I’ll hold them off while I can”! “Enchon no, they’ll kill you”! “That never stopped you”! “Besides I am one person, if they find the city or get Fendor we’re all dead”! They heard the sound of horses, just over the hill, “Go Quick”, and Osnath rode off into the wood, leaving Enchon utterly alone!
Enchon faced Galborn and his men and cursed, they drew to a halt and he made a short prayer and ran at them. He swung his sword and hit a man side on the face, he was already tired and weak so he did not last long, as he swung his sword and killed a man but he was surrounded so he lashed out, but was pierced. He staggered and prayed forgiveness and life to Fendor and Osnath and then fell in pain, completely and utterly into the . . . void.

Osnath rode on, ignoring the screams of pain and straight onto the track to the elf city. Soon he came to the crossroads; if he turned left he would come back to Galborn’s city, anyway, he road on checking all the time if they were behind him, so far so good! He got twenty yards passed the crossroads and an arrow sped past him, it missed and delved itself into a tree. Osnath went into a gallop and road on. But then it happened, a flaming arrow sped past him and hit a tree known as the bitch tree for it was made of highly explosive solids and this part of the forest was full of those trees! It exploded and Osnath fell of with Fendor as his horse reared up and galloped away. They were surrounded by fire and Galborn’s men. Standing up, he drew his sword and prepared for the assault, “Surrender or die, Osnath,” yelled the man in white “, Or I promise you that you will die”! “Save your voice for later, Bangarner, warlock of sczvena and you may have a bit of a nicer one, fireno”, yelled Osnath and a large ball of fire escaped his grip and flew towards Bangarner, but to late, Bangarner raised his hand and the fire went around him and shot at Osnath, who shot water out of his hand to stop it! “Blazdieaen ven swardeo creselent moonstone”, Yelled Osnath and his sword burned brightly with the heat of the sun. He charged and the warlock did too and their two flaming blades met, the fire engulfed them, burning, scorching and destroying them until Bangarner ran back and the fire was no more on their blades. But there was no fire at all and arrows were shooting at the soldiers and many were dead, there was Bangarner looking petrified at the elves, now battling his troopers. “Fireno” yelled Osnath and the warlock flew backwards and sprawled on the ground. But then he regained his strength, got to his feet muttered and incantation and dissolved into fin air! Then Osnath sprinted to the fight of the elves and men and sliced a man’s head off. He pierced another man and the fight was over. “Osnath where is the boy, we must get him to the city and there will be reinforcements here soon”! Osnath ran to his horse, grabbed it and led it to the still unconscious Fendor. After loading Fendor onto the horse he mounted. “Quickly we must get him to Zendafor to the healer. Oh and thanks Zeck, mainly for saving our lives and pulling Bangarner off me, that idiot should never have been taught how to teleport either”. The elves and Osnath rode through the forest “I will get a man to take him to the physician and I will take you to Grand Zvegnor to get the full account of your journey”, Said Zeck. “Yes” Said Osnath,“ I have very grave news indeed”!
