A poem about saying your ok with being alone when you really aren't

Living silent single lives,
one never touching the other.
Operating independently,
never depending on one another.
Vowing that we don't need
anybody else's company.
Perfectly happy alone,
without anybody.
But somewhere deep inside,
we don't want to be alone.
We crave the touch of another,
to have someone there at home.
We want to share our lives,
and be present for others.
We want to be important to someone,
and validate our lives - together.
Clamming up in our shells,
we stay in our comfort zone.
The possibility of happiness
not enough to open up
our hearts and homes.
Wishing silently for things to be different.
but too afraid to step out
and make a difference.
Instead of reaching out,
instead of being the first to give in;
we hold our ground,
refusing to give up
our world of pretend.
