Chapter One



Icepaw stumbled down the rocky path on to her belly. She was being pursued by a fox that came into ShadowClan's territory a few days ago. Her mentor, Brokenstar, wouldn't be pleased. Not pleased at all. Icepaw sighed and stood up quickly for she was nervous what would happen to her if she didn't complete the task assigned to her specificlly. She could smell the fox getting closer and closer to her. No where to run, no where to hide. She said in her mind. The fox came bounding torwards her and she knew that she would have to kill it or else. Icepaw dodged the attack quickly but the fox was tricky. Instead the fox slashed at her belly only missing a by a few centimeters. Icepaw stood there panting and was scared out of her wits. She could not fail her clan now. Especially not now. Not ever to be sure. Suddenly she began attacking the fox and she didn't realize it. She was slashing and biting as hard as she could to bring it down. She was about to make the final blow when the fox somehow slashed her stomach and she fell to the ground panting and trying to call for help. Then the world went dark.



She woke up panting and terrified at the same time. She could see her brother, Eaglepaw, waking up from his sleep too. "What's wrong Icepaw?" He asked his sister worried. "Nothing-nothing." She said still panting hard. "Are you sure, Icepaw? Because you're panting and startled." He told her. "Just a bad dream, Eaglepaw. And you should be worried about yourself." Icepaw told her brother sharply. He nodded silently then went back to sleep peacefully. I hope that dream dosen't come true. Icepaw thought to herself in her head. A while later she was sleeping peacefully with the other apprentices. Her nightmare was only a sign that StarClan could read...



"Now, Eaglepaw I need you to collect cobwebs and catmint." Runningnose said to his first apprentice. "I will be back in a jiff." Eaglepaw told him and ran off. Soon Eaglepaw's sister came in for Runningnose needed to see her. "You needed to see me?" Icepaw asked. "Yes, yes I do." The ShadowClan medecine cat told her. "Your brother, Eaglepaw, told me that you were having nightmares. Is that correct?" Runningnose asked her concerned. Icepaw hesitated then answered Runningnose. "Yes he is correct. But what can you do about, Runningnose?" Icepaw asked the medecine cat. "I could perhaps decipher it." He told her trying to comfort her. She then told Runningnose her nightmare and at the end his face turned dark. "Runningnose is something wrong." Icepaw asked him after a few silent moments. "Sorry Icepaw but even I cannot predict what is going to happen. All we can do now is hope...



Well, that wasn't a good sign. Icepaw thought to herself. She drug herself to the apprentices den and flopped down. "What's wrong Icepaw?" Rosekit, a extremely young apprentice asked her. "Nothing, Rosepaw. But thank you for asking me." Icepaw smiled to the young apprentice. Rosepaw was her cousin through Nightpelt's sister Smokegrass. "How was training today, Rosepaw?" She asked her younger cousin. "Well Honeystone wasn't feeling well today so she just sent me to train with Weedpaw." She told Icepaw. "Well that's nice to know." Icepaw told her. After that Brokenstar entered the apprentices den. "I need Icepaw for a moment." Brokenstar told Rosepaw. "What is it Brokenstar?" She asked him. "Look over there." Brokenstar instructed her. "Wait is that Eaglepaw?" Wait a minute-Eaglepaw is DEAD!!!"
