I have a "thing" for the Grim Reaper, a romantic notion, a fasination.

(No) Tears For The REAPER

26th January 2000

You’re here, I know, I can feel you close by,
Watching me breathe, watching the tear from my eye,
I can’t see you, or hear you, but I know you are there,
Why do you wait? Hesitate? Do you care?

I can feel you’re breath on my face,
Sense the foreboding from you as you pace,
I lay my head on the pillow and wait,
Wait for you to take me, wait for my fate.

I do not fear you, or hate you, or despise what you do,
In my heart I have longing, I’ve been expecting you,
The tear on my cheek! Wiped away by your hand?
Have you come to collect me? Take me to your far away land?

You’re watching me now, my hearts beating wildly,
I crave for your touch; I’ve needed you badly,
I don’t fear you REAPER, or the job that you do,
All my life I’ve been waiting, waiting for you.

I shiver as I feel cold fingers about me in caress,
Soft flutter of a kiss on my cheek, my name you address,
I open my eyes for I have to see your grin,
There’s just a shadow of a cowl, not hideous, not grim,

I reach out to touch the life-taking apparition,
But as my heartbeat slows, he speaks! “It’s not my decision”
He takes hold of my hand and his lips touch mine,
And my heart slows to stop at this emotion divine!

I see my old body just laying so still,
As the REAPER and I float away up the hill,
I turn to this spectre, this child’s fearful nightmare,
This bringer of death, who takes lives with no care,
And his face seems so gentle and as I feel his kiss,
I knew there and then that my whole life’s been leading to this!
