Sayra is a theif related the to Queen, and this is the last part of a hopeful book. |
This is meant to be like the last words. What happened before was that the thief, Sayra, finds out she has an identical twin sister, who just happens to be the heir to the throne. No one knows they are related. Sayra and her sisters gaurd come up with this elaborate plan to get allies to help out for the upcoming war, and this involves Sayra 'kidnapping' her sister. They travel to neighboring countries and find allies, and when they get back, Sayra's sister is crowned Queen and she announces a new position, the Theif of the City. Sayra gets this position, and below is her reunion with the theives who helped raise her after her uncle (who took care of her) died when she was 10. Alaric is like the unofficial leader of the theives, and Mina's tavern is where theives hang out in the city. I walked into Mina’s tavern, kind of nervous. It was only yesterday the whole city found out the truth about my relationship with the Princess. What if they all hated me? What would I do? These people, thieves that they are, are my family. They were there for me when my uncle died, not the royal family. But what if they wanted to kill me now? “Kitten! You came!” Alaric shouted across the room. “I said I would.” I replied, very simply. “Come sit with me.” I went over to his table, and sat. I have never been so unnerved by all the eyes following me. “Your nervous.” “These people, what do they think of me?” “I told you before. We all are happy. First, you are off the streets… well our streets anyway. You scare pretty much everyone in this room, even me sometimes.” “What else?” He gave me a look like he was wondering what I meant. “You said first.” “Oh. Well, we are all happy that you have family that is alive, and we can go around saying that we know the Queens sister, and we knew her before she was the Queens sister. She even beat us up.” This was the first time I laughed since Ameera announced this new position. “And last, we are proud of you.” “That’s why I came. You said you would tell me why you are proud if I came tonight.” “Ah Kitten. I know you came for more than one reason. Kitten…. Do you remember how you got that name?” “Of course I remember. How could I forget?” I remembered back, 11 years now, to when I was nine. It was my first night in this city. My uncle took me to an apartment, and he told me to steal anything from it. I went up to the top floor, and found a gold mark. I grabbed it, stuffed it in my boot, then started to head out, but before I reached the door, a man came behind me and grabbed my shoulders. “Stop.” I just stood there, waiting to see what he would do. “What did you take?” “Nothing important.” Well, it wasn’t important to the current Queen. He walked around to the front of me. I now saw the knife he was holding. Mine was in my boot, along with the coin. “Give me the gold mark.” “It’s in my boot.” “Slowly get it for me.” I slowly bent down, and stuck my hand in my boot. I wrapped my hand around something round, then quickly stood up and threw my knife at him. He must have saw it coming and ducked. The knife embedded itself in the door frame behind the man. “You are dangerous, are you now.” He started walking toward me. I had given up my only weapon. “Stop. If you come anywhere near me, I will throw the other knife I carry.” I came up with that lie quickly, hoping he wouldn’t notice the bluff. “You are a feisty one, aren’t you. I know you don’t have any other weapons.” I just glared at him. “And you seem to have a temper. But you are so small. How old are you anyway?” “13.” He looked at me and I corrected myself, “10.” He kept looking at me. “Fine, I’m 9.” “Nine! So young, so delicate. You’re like a Kitten.” “I AM NOT!!” “Wow! What a temper!” He seemed surprised even though he just commented on my temper not long before. “Well, Kitten, let me tell you a little about this city, since you are obviously new. Here, we have a little rule. Just one rule, but if you don’t follow this rule from now on, we will kill you. You see, I own these streets, and I lay down the law. The only rule you have to follow is simple. Thieves don’t steal from thieves. Simple, right?” “You’re a thief!?!” “Yes, Kitten, I am.” “Don’t call me Kitten. My name is Sayra.” “You are Kitten to me. Here, we look out for each other. How about you give me my coin back, I forget this ever happened, and we become family?” “Fine.” I actually grabbed the coin this time and tossed it at him. On my way out I yanked my knife out of the wall. As I walked out, I’m pretty sure I hear him say something like goodbye Kitten. I later found out that man was Alaric, who has been like a father to me since my uncle left. He now said to me, “Well, you’re hardly Kitten now. We are proud of you because we’ve all watched you grow up. Since your uncle died, we all had a small part in raising you. And you have become so fearsome, so strong, and so independent. You have outgrown these streets, and now, it is time for you to move on. Your new position with your sister, the Queen, is perfect for you. You’re not Kitten ever again, now, you are a beautiful Lioness.” |
