This is a poem I wrote after seeing an older gentleman in a cemetery with a dozen roses! |
He quietly stands alone beside Where his darling peacefully lays Remembering how wonderful she looked On that glorious summer day Such a beautiful angel in white Elegantly walking down the aisle At the altar he patiently waits Basking in the warmth of her radiant smile He silently wonders if she knows That by becoming his wife that day She had answered all of his prayers Making him whole in every way Their love only grew with the years Side by side on life’s wild ride With children came new worries and fears Keeping their faith even though it was tried They thought the stormy path clear Then cancer came in soundless stealth The doctor confirming our most dreaded fear The damning illness claimed her health Off weathered cheeks fall silent tears As he watches over his precious wife Her love and laughter his greatest wealth She’s the special chapter in his story of life Her memory he will carry along every day Until heaven and earth unite with God's grace This cemetery plot is where she must stay So until then he will visit this place A cold stone marks where his beloved is lain While placing the beautiful red roses for her to see Even now he could not forget his wife on this day Together as always, they will celebrate their Anniversary |
