I Should've Stayed At Home That Day

Today I turned up at work,
Enthused and ready to go,
When I saw a little post-it note,
That made me say, "oh no".

A box was outside my door,
Fully packed with all my things.
I knew I'd never get a job,
Working in Colorado Springs.

My heart turned heavy,
My eyes filled with tears.
Now I had to face,
All my workmates jeers.

I walked down the corridor,
Thinking of my life.
I wondered what I'd have to say,
To my waiting wife.

I'd got a baby at home,
Soon to be a toddler.
How was I supposed to be,
A loving, caring father?

But then, it really was my fault.
I've got no one else to blame.
And now the boss has got to make,
A hefty insurance claim!
