Wraiths and fears...
Ghosts in the Water

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
Filaments of dreams, half dead...
The darkest hour, at last arrives.
Not all who began this journey will return, alive.

Ghosts in the water.
Tears on my face.
Wraiths of fear,
Feet rushing with warranted haste.
Into the black, looking for a star.
Into the Stygian bleak reaches, who knows how far.

Ghosts in the water.
Questions in my head.
A shard of a dream, half-dead.
I glance down at the glimmering fragment.
Wondering.
How did it come to this?
Here, in the darkest hour.
Here, in the bleakest reaches.

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
A tide of war, of battles, begins again.
A tendril of a dying dream, writhes within my grasp.
A gleam and a glimmer...
Breathing out a few final gasps.
Here, in the darkest hour.
Here, in the bleakest reaches.

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
A slender, silver tendril of a dying dream.
There in my hand, like a fading star, does gleam.
Night has fallen without a star.
All light is gone.
Clouds gather, and so, shall obscure the dawn.
But there in my hand,
Something warms and glows.
Banishing the chill, the fear nipping at my toes.

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
A slender, silver tendril of a dream...
Too stubborn to fade,
Too strong to die.
Determined to linger, to wipe away the tears.
All light is taken...At least those of physical sight.
But deep, deep within...
A star shines that has never graced the night.

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
In my heart I possess the star.
That slender, gleaming thread.
There upon the fragmented shard,
The light of my bleeding dream is reflected.
In my heart, in my head...
Fighting.  Battling.
Back from the dead.

Ghosts in the water.
Phantoms in my head.
'Believe.'  A ghost murmurs in my ear.
'Follow the light of the hidden star.'
'Cast aside all fear.'
'Shine in the darkest hour.
'Cleave the Stygian bleakness.'
'Hold strong, hold true...'
'Believe and the world will have faith in you...'

Phantom Eyes, Wraith Fingers

Ghosts in the water.
Wraith fingers grip a heart.
Little by little, pulling a life apart.
Phantom eyes are watching.
Knowing this is wrong.
But where is the strength, the will...
The power to stand strong?

Cool and pale.
White as snow.
Warm and livid.
Crimson and staining, it does flow.
From a vein of deepest blue...
Into the streets, into the dark.
No one comes...
No one hears...
The stars, so distant, cold and stark.

Strength is waning...
Vision fades, what is the point in fighting?
They, who did this wrong...
They who had the will, the power to stay strong.
Now upon the stones,
So damp and cool and still.
Phantom eyes are watching.
Wraith fingers grip a heart.
The last few petals are falling, like a dying flower.
A broken work of art.
And so another joins the ranks,
Of the forgotten and lamented.
Nothing more than a...
