A young girl having a crush on someone who turns out to be dating her best friend |
If I could stop her from being with Matt I would. It was the last day of summer when I took a stroll along the beach, lost in thought about a boy I was falling in love with. The cool breeze carried in by the sea wafted in the air and I could just make out the faint smell of the seaweed. The sun was setting behind me and the soft red glow greeted the sky as the sun sank below the ocean. I carried on along the beach, my feet gently being tickled by the tide as I went. Thoughts of the end of term dance floated through my mind.I pictured Matt standing tall with his easy going smile and floppy blonde hair and the way he greeted me when I arrived at the dance. We chatted for a while, danced and shared a sweet kiss under the moonlight, it was then that I knew I was in love. I didn’t notice that I had reached the end of the beach and before I knew it my feet had carried me onto the pier. I drifted down the wooden structure still lost in the thought of what transpired the day after the dance. I had decided that sunny morning to take a walk down to the lake and hang out by the park. While on the way I had the sudden urge to stop by Matt’s house and ask if he wanted to join me. As I neared his front porch I heard a girl giggle in his garden at the back of the house. The girl’s laughter pulled on my heart strings and tears nipped at my eyes begging for release. I creeped round to the side of the house and saw Matt with a girl in the hot tub with no top on. I backed away silently and ran all the way home, no longer wanting to sit by the lake. My mind jumped back to the present as I realised that I was now at the end of the pier, and there was nothing beyond but the deep blue sea. A single tear caressed my cheek as I thought back to the last conversation I had with my then best friend. Carly had called me that very same afternoon I had saw Matt. She told me that she had some exciting news. I really didn’t want to listen to how happy she was as my own thoughts were swirling around in my mind, but I humoured her just the same. It was during our conversation that Carly told me that she met someone. She said that he went to the same school as ours and his dad had his own boat. My stomach lurched and my heart shattered as she spoke the name ‘Matt’. Tears silently streamed their way down from my face as the conversation ended. Love makes you do crazy things, as I now stand on the edge of the pier, my feet trying to balance on the top rung. I knew that I couldn’t look at him and my ex best friend all over each other without it secretly torturing me. What should I do? Jump or not? |
