Boating Accident

Each slice of his oar propelled James farther from the motorboat accident.  Blood was spattered across the bow, unreachable by the backwash from his blades. 



“Lucky kid,” James thought. The boy’s bleeding face in the water haunted each stroke. 



He glanced at the stained life preserver at his feet.  “Lucky.”
