I wrote this little poem/story after my friends mom died. It made me wonder..
The Reason Why

I sit in my dreams, laying awake.
The dreams pass on, birds sing, so does my mother.
My memories sometimes pass as i sit and watch.
Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I leap for joy.
Sometimes I cry.
Sometimes I ask why.
Why we can be given life and have it taken away.
Just like a stab in the back, it bleeds and escapes.
I sit and I cry, and then a hand grasps my shoulder.

I turn and there is the man. He lets me look into his face.
I ask him,"Are you the one to comfort me?"
He only replies, "No. I am the man who has keys to many doors.
The man who sees much throughout the world.
The man who sees people come and go,
to and fro from their life on Earth and when they move on."

I take a pause and sit as I watch my dreams wander.
"So, you're like God?"
He replies, "God, the Messiah, the Light, the Dude in the Cloak; I have many names that I go by. If you so wish, God would be a suitable name."
"Okay," I reply. I watch one of my dreams. A child is running in fright, scared, and a car dives into him, throwing the boy into peices.
I start to cry as I watch the boy's arms and legs fly like birds. God crosses his legs and sits beside me.
"Pity. It was his time, but he will be missed." I almost wanted to shout at God for saying such a merciless thing. But I sat in silence.
"God?" I ask. "Why do people die?"
God sighs for awhile, and finally replies. The image of the boy plays repeatedly as we sit and watch.
"People die because they have to move on. It's just the way the world works. If nobody ever died, nobody would ever learn to apprecate life People would just walk the universe, not at all enjoying themselves. Life would eventually become something useless and we'd never be able to move on."

I turn back to my dreams with that answer in my mind, racketing around. I finally ask,"God, what's after earth?"
God smiles and turns to me. "The greatest place ever imagined. There is a room for everyone that comes here, and there is no shortage of happiness. See, it's like earth, but with no death and violence. Just friends and famly, all gathered together.
I smile. "That sounds like a cool place. Can I take a peek?" I ask, like a child.
"Why sure," he replies. "Just a tiny peek though, I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise for you."

So, God takes my hand and we walk. Out of the dreams, past reality, and down a long corridor. We walk until we reach a door that reads, "Moving On." God reaches into his pocket and takes a big chain of keys. After shuffling, he finds it.
God asks, "Ready, son?"
I smile like a child, look up at him, and nod.
He unlocks the door and opens it wide. I look inside, and I smile.
