This poem is about not becoming bitter when we face life's challenges. |
Mama told me life is seldom fair But don't use that as an excuse to be a quitter Living in this cruel world is often hard to bear But you can't let it make you bitter It's all right to feel hurt, disappointed or mad But find a healthy outlet and vent Try to salvage some good from the overwhelming bad And don't let your feelings turn to resentment Speak your mind get it off your chest Don't keep anger trapped like a hungry beast in a cage Finding yourself always on the defensive and constantly stressed Irrational thoughts and mindless actions; results of repressed rage Perhaps unrepentantly you find a loved one gone Taken from you in a blink of an eye How could God be so selfish to take them and leave you alone? Without a warning or final goodbye Or could it be that this year you got no bonus, promotion or raise Despite the fact that you worked twice as hard The "do littles" and "brown nosers" got all the praise Your efforts gained only your boss's disregard And more often than not it's a matter of the heart your love left you for another A distant memory is what's left of the one you planned to marry Heart broken, trust shattered you can't recover And you're destined to be alone because of the baggage you carry There are countless circumstances that prescribe bitter pills for us to swallow But the easy way out is to give up and be a quitter In loathsome, self-pity dare not let yourself wallow And though life isn't always sweet refuse to let it make you bitter |
