IN THE SHADOWS...

In reading the 23rd Psalm, one day I finally understood “the valley of the shadow of death” is the place where I live.


         * * * * * *

In the shadows, death lurks…
an ever-changing set of perks and quirks.

The fellow who cut my hair is no longer here,
transferred to another plane in the universe.

The valley of the shadow of death is the interim...
a place of sorrow, the mundane,
where people move to and fro
as a pendulum

…where happiness is fleeting

And yesterday, a fading memory
of mourning and regret.

Remember with fondness or contempt?
Fate is the place --- no one is exempt.
Scorned, dirge of discontent.
