Love and joy
you portrayed to others.
Inside you were broken
like shattered glass.

Hopes and dreams
you left to wither
so disappointments
flourished instead.

The tension was pungent
in your apartment
lingering ostensibly
in the conditioned air.

The smell of hatred,
booze and cigarettes
stifled your soul
and clinged to your hair.

Screams, shouts
and accusations
was what spelled
weekend
for you.

As another Friday
reached your landing
you prayed for the strength
to pull through.
