We walk a dark and lonely road
In search of what we do not know
A trip, a stumble, a fall, a wound
The doors are locked into those rooms

But God has seen our low estate
And sent our way His chosen mate
So when at last you intersect
It’s not the one that you expect

You find in common things you love
And look up to the stars above
To wonder why you’ve been so blessed
Now from your mission you may rest

Until that day you come to find
That only one is on your mind
You scrimp and save all to prepare
A life for her beyond compare

When at last you two decide
Under one roof both to abide
Unto the Rubicon you’ve come
Out of a house you’ll make a home

For tykes in want you have a heart
To give to them a right fair start
Kinder in need of love and warmth
Find both upon your glowing hearth

Through trials and through joyous times
Through quiet moments so sublime
You raised them up as they should go
The Word of God to love and hold

The time then came for you to care
For loved ones capped with silver hair
It was by no coincidence
You took up next door residence

All of your birds have flown the nest
Yet comes a time of further tests
With love, calm strength, and fortitude
Gold crowns at Home you have accrued

Now fifty years you’ve walked this Earth
More than the parts the whole is worth
May on your head rest God’s right hand
Until in front of Him you stand
