The Power of Words

A poem written for a contest

Actions can speak volumes,
but words can be toxic.
Spoken in anger
they can be caustic.
They can cause doubt.
Doubt can cloud your mind,
turn your heart to dust
and cause it to forget
why it was designed.
But given the chance,
that same heart can forgive;
apologetic words wrapped in love
is all the strength it needs
to begin again.
