A poem of love and loss
The pain in his eyes haunts me
It is a mirror of my own
So raw, so bare it catches my soul

My heart is choking me
What tragedy hides behind such pale blue eyes?
I cry, I fear, I push away!
But none of these hold him at bay

I love you!
He cries as my heart exclaims
Oh what I long to say
But the death in my spirit keeps me at bay

Did you not hear me?
Did you not see it in my face?
His hands still and his pulse has quickened
I must look away

Say it!
Say it please!
My chin trembles as his voice cracks
My love can you not answer me?
I feel evil, I feel pain, I feel wretched and untrue

Torments!
I torment him to protect him
I deny him this one thing
I torment the fate that brought this man to me

His caress, his tender gaze no longer mine to keep
The pain in his eyes is my undoing
I am sick with the knowledge that it was I who added to it

I love you
He whispers as my heart breaks
Oh what I long to say
But the death in my spirit keeps me at bay
