My friend was killed in a car accident this morning. This is for her. |
And Then They're Gone The twin towers stood, beautiful and strong But then of course, one was destroyed. Gone. No one expected it. No one gave it a thought. It just happened one day. Out of the blue. Just like the twin towers, you were destroyed. One half of a whole. Nothing less nothing more. Just gone. Maybe it was accidental. But that doesn't change things. It just happened. Like that. It wasn't like a dream. There were no fairytale lights. Nothing happened in slow motion. Just a bang. Violent horns. Wheels screeching against hot bitumen. Well... this is real life. I tell myself you will visit my friends up there. I have friends up there, don't I? But... what IS up there? What is up, and down, and sideways, and all around? Nothing. Nothing at all. You haven't gone anywhere. Well, soon you will be placed in the ground. Six feet under. So I guess, you really will be going down. Down, down, down. To nothing. One half of the whole. Below the green grass. Someone had to die so young. It was inevitable. There had to be a chance it would be you. There had to be a chance it would be any of us. But... why was it you? Why was it not the guy who did drugs? Why was it not the rape artist? People. DIE. We know this. Why does it seem like such a shock? Well I guess that's it. It's not a fairytale. It's not pretty. It's not surreal. It's death. You're gone. Just... gone. |
