A haunting poem about abandonment, despair, and a sibling's tragic final moment.

Susie was a brave girl, who wandered alone along the shore.
She must have been at least seventeen, and never longed for more.

Susie had parents who loved her, but they were never home.
They said they needed a vacation, so they packed their bags and moved to Rome.

Susie was left behind, in a quiet house with her brother Rick.
She’d wanted to die for quite some time— her family's love felt thin and sick.

She crept to her room in the big gloomy house, and pulled out her favorite knife.
She began to cut with trembling hands, intent on ending her broken life.

She carved into her skin, as pain spun wild within.
Her wounds spilled madly, fresh blood—her silent sin.

Rick heard her cries, and ran down the darkened hall.
His heart froze in horror as he watched his sister fall.
