Red Road is about hope, and appreciating the little events that occur in life.
Chapter 1:Red Roads
"Bye Daddy", I whispered in the voice of a three year old little girl being held by her daddy. Daddy coughed heavily for a minute or two before looking up at me, and taking my hand into his. "Goodbye Sandra..", he croaked. A warm tear streamed down my pale face, "Daddy I'm Melody, mom's name is Sandra. She's in the kitchen making you breakfast. I'll miss you, but don't worry I'll be back soon I promise okay!? I promise Daddy!!", my voice was a loud whisper now, and mom was leaning in for a tight hug. This was the last hug from her I'd be getting in quite a while. We exchanged goodbyes for about 10 to 20 minutes. It was so hard to say goodbye, especially with Daddy's Alzheimer's Disease, but it was time to live life and move on before it was too late. Just like what had happened to Mom, and Daddy; they had gotten married and had me, and they hadn't gotten the chance to live life because of me, but now it was finally my turn-my chance. The morning sun glistened on my pale skin turning it a reddish-orange color. My best friend, Beth Anne suddenly popped out from behind me whilst hovering over my head. Beth Anne was a still growing 5"9 while I was at the height of 5"2, "Melody take me with you!!", she cried out while grabbing my slim waist with one hand, and lighting up her cigarette with another. I laughed, "No Beth Anne. You stay here and check up on my Mom and Daddy ya hear?", I hugged her again and stumbled along to the shed out back with my small bag wrapped around my right arm. Unlocking it with our spare key, I sucked in a deep breath. Maybe Mom wouldn't notice if I took her car, she thought that I was taking the filthy ol' bus anyways so she'll probably never even know. Quietly, I forced myself to turn the key in the ignition and slowly drive out into the open road. "Oh god, oh god, oh god....", I whispered to myself in a shaky voice. What if Mom saw me!? What if I get into an accident? I don't even know where I'm driving to!

The cloudless sky allowed the blazing sun to wrap me in its warmth. Hell, maybe I'll actually get a decent tan for once! Now, where should I even go first? I decided to scour the car for a map, or something. At last, a rolled up map that Daddy used to use when he took Mom and I on road trips a few years back. I stared at the map for what seemed like an everlasting amount of time, my index finger glided to the nearest locating; Mount Rushmore. I stared at the wheel, I just couldn't find it in my soul to do it, but I knew that I had to. "Just do it already damn it Melody!", yelled a familiar voice from the back of the car, I rolled my eyes and couldn't help but let out an explosion of laughter. "Gosh, Beth Anne get out for god's sake.", as she exited the old car I locked it and drove away leaving nothing but a trail of dirt, rocks, and dust for Beth Anne. I swirved to the right as soon I saw 'Benny's Bar&Grill' and made another right at my mom's hair salon, 'Sandra's Scissor Salon'.
By the time I had crossed 5 towns it was sunset. My hands were sticky, and sweaty as my palms still stuck to the will of the car with my knuckles turning white from being so nervous of an accident occuring. Finally, I approached a long, narrow road with identical mansions. Pure, silky white with what looked like about 6 or 7 floors fit into, and a beige roof at the very top. Unfortunately, the large houses had caugh my attention for so long that all I heard was a loud 'Crash!!' before fading into a state of unconciousness as complete blackness surrounded me. It felt like I was in a dream, like reality didn't exist, and that every mistake or bad thing in life had simply been erased. It was like a small piece of chalk that consistently wrote down my mistakes, and bad things in life, but somebody had just grabbed the eraser and made everything that that piece of chalk had written down non-existent. I was floating in this dream, going down, down, down, down, down. All of my muscles were completely and utterly relaxed, they were numb, but one thing felt awkward-different. Something warm, and red pouring out of me. Leaving my body limp, and empty. Turning the roads I had driven over red, and empty as if they had never even been built at all. The numbness had suddenly turned into a great amount of severe pain. Sharp butcher knives repeatedly pushing and pulling, in-and-out, in-and-out. My head pounded like there was no tomorrow, and my fingers clenched into tight fists. My legs had spasms, and they shook. I could feel my stomache sended blood up my throat, and I coughed it up so I could breathe. In-and-out, head pounding, fingers clenching, leg spasms, coughing up blood were the only thoughts that could race through my head right now at this very moment. My pulse was racing now, and it was hurting me. All of me. Suddenly, I pictured red roads. Roads covered in red liquid, the roads sunk deeper and deeper into nothing. I was nothing, I was dying....
When my eyes finally fluttered open to the sound of yelling and sirens, I saw myself being carried into an ambulance. I tried to move, but nothing.
Everytime I tried to move, yet alone even think nothing came to me. Just what I saw is what I could take in. My mouth felt as if somebody had just easily sewed it shut when I had been unconcious before. Those stupid houses weren't worth my attention, but they had fooled me. They had made me almost die, and now I was at the risk of being paralyzed.
