This story is about the thoughts of an unborn child.
The Embryo

I am the unborn. I am free-floating in my watery world. My thoughts are hazy, newly-formed entities flashing in the early synapses of my brain.

I am holding a twisted cord, my lifeline. I feel its smooth, warm texture as it passes over my legs and arms. I feel my navel is my centre, where my lifleline is attached.

My world is an ocean where tides heave in and out. Sometimes I hear a roaring in my ears of the sounds of unknown calling.

One voice stands out among all others. This voice reverberates and flows in waves over me. Sometimes the voice is soft and silky. Other times it is sharp and loud. I want to keep hearing this voice and I stretch myself out to find the source of its distant cadence.

I have dreams of salt water rushing in my ears and my body somersaulting through the relentless waves. Sometimes in my dreams, I see a bright light shining in the distance.

I am the unborn. I am in a state of waiting for an unknown possibility. I exist in my eternal ocean world. Will this be my eternity or will I enter into another one?
