Storyteller

Stories should be told by the fire,
As marshmallows toast & wood crackles,
Or told by a grandparent,
To children on their lap.

Stories should be set in a far away kingdom,
Where things have gone wrong, so that they can be righted,
Or someplace close,
Perhaps long, long ago.

Stories should have a dashing hero,
Well armored and rushing to save the damsel or princess in distress,
And a wizard to guide him,
And show him the way.

Stories must be filled with emerald scaled monsters,
Breathing fire and bringing death.
They should also be filled with ghosts and goblins,
Lying in wait for unwary travelers.

Stories should, for a moment or two,
Take you someplace you have not been before,
Transporting you to a place where,
Things are quite different yet somehow the same.

Stories should show the true meaning of friendship,
What you should do when the world is in crisis,
When you should jump in and help those in peril,
And how to find home when you're lost far away.

Stories must have a moral,
A meaning to tell you that you take away,
A proverb or maxim
For your benefit.

Stories must be enjoyed
They should be shared and re-told.
Stories must be loved
Or they'll just die away.
