A poem dedicated to my late friend, Paul, who recently committed suicide.
To the boy in the corner sleeping,
Write us a song of weeping.
To Jackie's best friend,
Why must you induce the end?

Paul.

The empty cafeteria seat,
Where you sat and stared at your feet,
Will remain empty and clean.
You will never again be seen.

Paul.

We loved you, did you know?
The boy who sat in the bleachers, top row,
Will stay fresh in my mind,
As the boy who was cunning and kind.

Paul.

Baseball cap over wispy hair,
Bleeding nose, but you don't care,
Fragile and small, we never knew,
That you were empty, too.

Paul.

You carried the world on your shoulders.
And the world is a heap of boulders.
You were too young, my friend,
Too young to see the end.

Paul.

To the boy in the corner sleeping,
Write us a song of weeping.
To Jackie's best friend,
Why must you induce the end?

Paul.
