A remembrance of my late friend |
Lisa Came To Visit My friend Lisa came to visit last night I had waited in silence for two weeks Awaiting her arrival in the early morn She had come to tell me something I watched her die a slow, too early death Sixty five pounds was all that remained That and fond, quiet memories of her Sitting in the sun smiling, laughing She made my life easier, better, much better Lisa my friend, my sister, my employer Full of life, confidence, love, happiness Cancer had other plans for Lisa, sad plans Mornings’ over coffee, a laugh, small talk A business review, another laugh or two For her another damned cigarette, another nail Thirty years of that and a family history to boot Long blond hair that at times was way too thick A cell phone in one hand a smoke in the other She was as kind as a cool rain on a hot July day As funny as a kitten playing with a ball of yarn That bright smile shown again in early morn I heard her laugh softly as she smiled at me It's all good now my friend, worry not she said She was as kind and good as they come I returned to my sleep in my warm bed Glad that she had come to visit me Seeing that pretty glowing smile Reassured that she was well The Synic sleeps in the ground now She lives on in many lives and hearts Her kindness and humor touched many Oooh I miss her so |
