Possessions are usually diminished by possession. –Nietzsche
The Sands of Time

At night I wish, at day I run,
I want to grab at everything,
I wish and race until I've spun,
A maze of wants and craving.

Time is slipping,
And I'm running.

There's a restlessness inside me,
Every gain is but slight.
I rush for what I can't foresee,
I grab at everything in sight.

Time is slipping,
And I'm still running.

I've lost the goal along the way,
Towards what am I heading?
I fight and push to make my way,
Against whom am I competing?

Time is slipping,
And I'm still running.

Now I'm blistered, hurting, sore,
But cannot stop wanting more.
I'm stranded in a sea of desires,
Stranded far away from shore.

Time is slipping,
And I'm still running.

And now my life has shifted gears,
And I look for someone to share,
My days, my cares, my gathered wares,
But look to find nobody there.

Time was slipping,
And I was running.

I've run and rushed everywhere,
Run blindly for want and greed,
And now can't bring myself to bear,
To run for what I need.

Time has slipped,
And I've stopped running.
