The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. What is significant about that phrase? Why do we use it to describe the God we serve? Does this phrase have any relevance to our lives today?

God is concerned about relationships. God had a relationship with not just one, but three generations of the same family. He is not limited by time or any earthly boundaries. Pharaoh proclaimed himself to be god over Egypt; yet his reign was limited by his lifetime and the boundaries of Egypt. Because the God Moses and the Israelites served was the God of not one but three generations, this made it clear that Moses’ God was more powerful than Pharaoh.

God keeps His promises. God ignored Abraham and Sarah’s age and fulfilled His promise in spite of human impossibility. It seemed impossible that the Hebrew children would ever leave Egypt, yet leave they did. God’s Word is worthy of our trust.

God transforms lives and brings healing to broken relationships. God brought Jacob back to and restored Jacob’s fellowship with his brother Esau. Jacob had been a liar, a deceiver, yet God heard his prayer. Not only did God answer Jacob’s prayer that night, God also changed Jacob and gave him a new name. God also changed Jacob’s name from Jacob to Israel, which means power with God. What a transformation! A liar, a deceiver changed to a man who had power with God and a broken relationship restored.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the God not limited by the time(physical lifetime) or our impossibilities who also brings transformation, restoration and healing to each and every part of our life. What a Mighty God we serve!
