A special poem about Haley's comet, which I wrote after reading an article about it. |
-Haley’s Comet- by Keaton Foster In a distant sky Seemingly motionless As it goes screaming by Burning the blackness bright Lessoning the weight of night I have seen it once before When I was a young child Back when my family was one Long before I lost So many of them To alcohol and drugs Their addictions Got the best of them And in the end Left us far apart Increasingly alone I have always lived I have since suffered More than most Persistence is my king Fighting the good fight Is how I have since lived I know that if I am lucky I will see it again Long after most of my life Has passed me by Feeble and old I will still know what to do And how to act As it streaks by Brightening the sky Bringing my life Into clear view A full circle around the universe A full circle within my existence As it burns wide Just as I did when I was a child I will wonder where it has been And what it has seen On its journey beyond All that could ever be Haley’s comet An other worldly experience Once had Once again I know that It will trace the sky From one endless horizon To the next It will slip out of view By the time it comes back by A span of seventy five years will divide I, along with most of my kind Will probably be through… Haley’s Comet Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2012. |
