                                    Christmas Without You


          Off in the distance a lone whistle is blowing.
          Where you are,no one is knowing
          And its getting dark, around suppertime.


          Your best buddy, Old Jeb is howling,
          The kids are crying, and the wind is blowing.
          There's a lump in my throat just knowing,you never said goodbye.


            Questions are whirling around in my head
            As I go over the last things we said.
            I'm just wondering if its all my fault.


            The heartsick feeling is now stealing
            Its way back into my mind of the last time you left.
            The cold harsh words that sent my heart reeling and bereft.


            One cant take back a word once it's said
              Nor unfling a stone once it is flung,
              Nor unbreak a heart once it is done.


              It's nearing Christmas  time here on the farm
              With all it's usual  decoration and charm.
              The children are wondering where you are.


              The tree is up, the stockings are hung.
              Without you here,the carols are not sung.
              I miss your ole guitar  and our harmonizing.
             
           


            It's been weeks now since I've seen your face
            Or felt the warmth of a mans embrace.
            The reality of not knowing is setting in.
   
       
            I have moments of sheer grief and moments of anger
            Hoping you are well and not in danger.
            I'm now wondering if you ever loved me at all.


            So until I know the truth
              And get over all these bruises, and my chipped tooth,
            I guess I'll just take your credit card and go to the Mall.
