When I die, I'd like
to casually decompose myself
above the ground,
fading deep against the earth.
Perhaps I'd grow small green fingers
between the ivory ones
once enough of me has melted away
or been neatly bitten off with scavenging teeth.
I'd like to be under the sky
while unblinking eyes shine
unknowingly over my grave--
the open air.
I've been claustrophobic
inside this body
far too long.
