The words coming from my bratty teenaged son rings through my head much like a leaf being blown by the wind. No shield from the confusing hormonal mood swings. There is no umbrella to protect me from the fallout of his emotional out bursts.
I remember holding him as a new born babe. He had beautiful brown eyes, and a bright smile was always across his lips. There wasn't a day that I didn't get his arms around my neck as a toddler. I loved hearing him tell me that he loved me. I could not wait to get home from work to spend time with him.
Now I try to give him a hug. He steps away. I say “I love you.” I hear nothing back. Then the dust from past memories keep me company until he out grows this stage of his life. I can hope that he will soon grow into a great young man that can balance his life with the love he has for his mother.
