co-dependent living with depression of loved one.

I woke up this morning

feeling pretty good

but then you pierced my happiness

with a look I understood.

Ours eyes were locked but yours were vacant

in that worn familiar place

the one that stands between us

that forbids us to embrace.

I’ve learned to read between the lines

becoming quite adept

but instead of filling me with hope

it leaves me feeling quite inept.

I can feel my body tensing

as depression casts its shadow

upon a life that’s so enmeshed

that my mood like yours is fallow.

Is it love or co-dependence

that has pushed me to the edge

I leave you now with that last thought

as I step out on the ledge.
