Dissolution of a marriage. What it can do to a family unit.
Eyes that glisten, bright with tears
The news has now been broken.
Their memories are of golden years
But with words they’ve never spoken.
The future holds so many fears
There are doors they’ll never open
All they ever held so dear
Will become a cherished token.

The life they knew, no longer is
For it’s been torn apart.
Childhood dreams, a good night kiss,
And smiles right from the heart
They’re young. They only caught the gist
Now it means a brand new start.
It’s those special times they’re going to miss
And time will not impart

Family outings in the spring
Are times they’re going to chase.
Childish songs they used to sing
Diminished without trace.
They’re free like birds upon the wing
But now they have to face
A world without those special things
A world they can’t embrace.

All those children, black or white
Who never knew the source
The unmitigated stinging bite
Of their mum and dad’s divorce.
The fear that it will incite them
Has thrown them off course
There’ll be no turning back tonight
There’ll be no time to pause.

They suffer in confusion,
Their hearts are snapped in two
But this is evolution
This is what parents do.
There is no resolution
And their hearts are black and blue
They can’t find a solution
To them their lives are through.

Divorce.  A get rich business
For those who know the game
With little thought to Christmas
They just snuff out the flame.
And now life trembles on this
It will never be the same
But all they do is curse it
While the kids feel they’re to blame.

It’s not until the child has grown
That he might understand
Until now he hasn’t known
What it was possessed the man
Who had little more than thrown in
His marriage as a sham
And a woman who has shown him
The very best laid plan.
