A unique poem about fighting against what others want me to be. |
-Condescending Talk of Who I Oughta Be- by Keaton Foster Tell me this Confess me that Stand in judgment Point Over my home Over my bones Explain to me What it is that I must do Take away any and all choice Burn down my decisions Build up your own Force them upon me Then stand back And watch me self-destruct Condescending talk of who I oughta be Is a good place to start My tragic death will be The only place to end My life, always in between A living line of driven time Ripples of cause and effect Implanted into my psyche A once slave made whore I cannot resist the sun The one that burns in your sky I cannot avoid the darkness That resides within mine In between I always fight Against all that you wish I am certain that I could just give in And become what it is you desire Easier still, I could just become Something quite different A new found paradine Beyond your mindset Defying the only God that I know Not the one of faith A God of something else Something that you and I Dare not speak of Condescending talk of who I oughta be Further drives me Something, anything that opposes The words that you dare say Is an idea that I won’t betray Hold your tongue as I Slip in the correct words Power and form Beautiful excerpts from a mind Set to a blank page Burnt into the brains of those Who have an ability to read Between very thin lines written And a very finite truth given I will continue to be me for a time Refusal of you is my only way Condescending talk of who I oughta be Will simply be ignored… Condescending Talk of Who I Oughta Be Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2013 |
