Chapter 2
Juanita's Predicament

         One day Ryan heard that Nicholas was going on another hunt. He immediately summoned his daughter Nicholas' Mother Juanita. “I want you to follow Nicholas on his hunt report back whatever information you get” Ryan told her. Juanita knowing she shouldn't try and and argue with her father said “OK father”. She followed Nicholas until he reached a herd of wooly mammoths. He was almost in the middle of the herd when Juanita knowing how bad wooly mammoths can be yelled “STOP Its too dangerous”. Nicholas turned around and yelled back “MOM what are you doing here” before Juanita had a chance to answer back. A male wooly mammoth saw Nicholas as a threat and started to charge at him. Juanita saw it and yelled back “TURN AROUND”. Nicholas turned around and tried to dodge but it was too late one of the wooly mammoths tusks grabbed Nicholas and pierced through his skin. Nicholas was helpless his body flopped around as the mammoth ran around and around trying to throw Nicholas off and with every turn the tusk got deeper and deeper and deeper. Luckily. A hunting party that left a few minutes after Nicholas came and killed the mammoth and Nicholas was rushed to the medical Hut for treatment. Juanita was crying as she made her way back to the village and to her fathers tent. “Did you hear about Nicholas father” Juanita asked? “yes I did” Ryan said “its your fault he was almost killed I hope you know”. Juanita feeling anger and sadness said “I didn't know it was gonna charge  and I am his mother I was scared and tried to help”. “ and how did that work out for you” Ryan said. “not good” Juanita said. “and plus he is NOT your son we don't even know where he came from all we know is you found him laying on the ground so STOP calling him your son” Ryan said angrily.  Juanita burst into tears and ran out for she knew this was true but did not want to believe it. Every time her father had said something before she ignored it and kept raising Nicholas, but she cant keep running away from the fact that she was not Nicholas' mother. “3 years is not a big margin” her father had told her in a earlier argument about Nicholas and she was starting to feel the same way. She went to visit Nicholas is the medical hut but he was not there “we released him and told him to go home” the nurse said. Juanita went home hoping to see Nicholas but he was not there either. “OH NO hes gone!!!”. She ran right back to her father's tent and told him that Nicholas was missing. “Ill send a search party out immediately” Ryan said to his crying daughter. SO the search party left the village and started to look. They Checked the Caves to the east he was not there. They Checked the Mountains to the north He was not there either. They even checked the tar pits to the south he was not there either. Nicholas was about 1000 meters  west heading toward the waterfalls. “I cant believe my mom almost got me killed I wonder what she wan....”. He could not get the last sentence out cause he was being hogtied and carried on a platform. “PUT ME DOWN” Nicholas yelled. “stop struggling and we wont kill you” a voice said. The voice was very deep and scratchy Nicholas looked down and what he saw nearly made him pass out. The people carrying him on the platform were neanderthals. A group of people that only eat meat and are the strongest humans around. No matter how much Nicholas struggled there was no way he was gonna win. They threw Nicholas in a cage and left him. The search party were on the outskirts of the city when one with very good vision spotted Nicholas.” “ I found him” said one of the search party people. “where!!!” said the search party. “ in that cage” then the rest of the search party saw him. “we better run back to the village”. So they started toward the village. Back at the village Ryan was very sick with a deadly disease. “Juanita when I die you will be my successor and you will have to make a big decision”. “Father what decision is that” Juanita asked. “you have to know that when someone runs away  from the village they are considered ditching their family”. “ father you can't mean Nicholas hes just a boy and a young one at that” Juanita explained. “well you have to make a choice you can change the law but you need more that half of the village to agree with you or you can tell Nicholas if he gets back that he needs to leave”. “ Fine if the search party does not come back with Nicholas or they have no idea where he is I will ban him” Juanita said but regretted, and then right in front of her Ryan died Juanita had his body cremated at once. Then the search party returned they heard the news on the way to Ryan's now Juanita's hut once they were at the hut they said to Juanita “My lady we know where Nicholas is” OH GREAT where is he?.” “The neanderthals  have taken him prisoner”. “what? Then we must get him back tell the messenger to send a message to the neanderthals we get Nicholas or war!” Juanita said aggressively. So the messenger started toward the camp. When he got to the camp at least a couple hours later he had to get permission from the guards to see the leader Kragon. “SO let me get this straight if we don't That kid back we will go to war with your people.” Kragon Pondered this for a moment and then said “WE don't want to give him back” Kragon laughed. Then right then and there he slayed the messenger where he stood. Nicholas had been listening while thinking of a way to get out he decided to give up and go to sleep. While he was sleeping a noise slightly woke him then he went back to sleep then a very soft and quiet voice said “Wake up”. Nicholas awoke very fast and sat up to a pot of water and a piece of bread and in the darkness he saw a face but it wasn't a man's face it was a girl's face and the girl he sat face to face with was Kragon's daughter Minerva. “do not be alarmed for I am here to get you out you need to be home when the war starts” Minerva said very quiet. Nicholas stood up and brushed himself off and then turned to face Minerva. “Thank you I will not forget this if you are caught and imprisoned or about to be executed I will surely tell my people about this moment” Nicholas said. “Thank you” said Minerva. “you must get going but before you go take this” Minerva turned around and picked something up it was something Nicholas had never seen before. “what is that?” Nicholas asked. “its called a sword” Minerva explained “its a combat weapon use it in the war”. “thank you” said Nicholas again. “Bye” said Minerva “and good luck”. “bye” said Nicholas and then he left the hut very quietly and didn't look back until he was far away from the neanderthals' Village. He got home just as the morning hour hit and he went straight to his and Juanita's hut. Juanita was awake thinking about the war “we don't have a lot of people we're gonna be destroyed” she kept saying to herself. Nicholas thought this was a good opportunity to alert his presence to his mother and said “with an attitude like that of course we'll get destroyed.” Juanita turned around a ran full speed toward Nicholas hugged him and kissed him and the said “how did you get out of the cell?” she asked him. Nicholas then told her the story about the messenger getting killed and Minerva coming to save him. “awwwwwww we'll have to spare her life if we capture her” Juanita said “Oh and she also gave me this to use in the war” Nicholas said then showed her the sword. “whoa” said Juanita. “well the war begins in a few hours and your going to be general”. Nicholas was excited at those words and went straight to the army training hut. A few hours later in the distance they heard a horn. “that's the horn of the neanderthals'” said Juanita to Nicholas. “Well... this is it if they come to close to the village ill do all I can to stop them but if I can't get yourself out” Nicholas said to his mother. “Ok good luck”  said Juanita. Nicholas turned to leave but his mother grabbed him and hugged him one last time just in case said “I love you” and “be careful. Nicholas said “ I love you too” and “I will”. Nicholas then left the hut and told his army to follow him. They left the village and went to a huge field and on the other side of the field a neanderthal flag waved. “there they are” said Nicholas. Nicholas then turned to his army went over the plan one more time. “we can not allow them to get to the village!!” “Why?” said one of the archers. “because in wars the winner is the army that kills the other armies village leader in other words Juanita.” “SO ARE WE GOING TO LET THEM GET TO OUR VILLAGE AND KILL JUANITA” Nicholas said hoping to rally the troops. Well It worked. “NO SIR” The army said. “THEN FOR JUANITA  AND OUR VILLAGE” and with that the army charged with Nicholas leading . Juanita was on a hill in the distance near the village. “Nicholas is doing very well” she thought. “yes very well indeed”said a voice behind her. Juanita turned very frightened and she was staring fact to face with Kragon and a few of his soldiers “take her away”he said. Juanita was not going to go quietly she was able to get away long enough to ring the Trouble gong. As soon as she rang it Nicholas turned around and saw Kragon. Nicholas gave his general rank to a archer and ran to save Juanita. He got a few feet when a neanderthal with a very large spear tried to stab him Nicholas dodged but it was not necessary as soon as the neanderthal raised his spear he was pierced by an arrow. Nicholas turned around to see who was the archer and to his surprise it was Minerva. “GO” she was yelling “GO Save your mom from my dad I will hold them off and push them back GO”. So Nicholas took off toward Kragon.
