an abandoned house

                                                The House

Moldering and sagging
its once proud roof battered,
shingles ripped and torn by some long ago storm
Shutters hanging crooked and broken
paint, peeling and faded
A missing window pane fallen from a rotting frame
the foundation, cracked and crumbled
letting in the ants
mice had found a home here
The porch, long separated from the side, rotting,
moss and weeds growing on the stairs
Its once vibrant garden choked out by weeds
a flower here and there, fighting a loosing battle
An apple tree, in desperate need of pruning
apples, yellow, wormy
The brick chimney long ago fallen
lay scattered on the ground
It felt forlorn, weeping
longing for the days when it was alive with a family
Remembering days gone by.
