The Gardener at Work

The gardener’s labor is one of joy.
For each hour towards her goal,
she sees the bare earth
bloom into a wonderful landscape.
She is like a master artist
who uses flowers instead of paints.
Her picture is filled with various colors that
spring into life as she sprinkles
nutriment for the hungry roots.
The plants wait patiently for her final gift of water.
Then, when the work is done,
Mercedes steps back and smiles.
Her garden responds to her the “Thank you”
that only nature can express.
