Ah! Pond petals, tempting and sweet;
the scent is so divine,
It draws the koi from their sleepy beds,
and pulls them as if on a line.
A nibble here,a nibble there,
perhaps a munch or two?
But alas no! For they love also;
the glorious petals in view!
Dark Samurai ones,
the blackest and red,
seem to not even move at all.
They woo the whitest of the white,
as the goldens play in the waterfall.
See quick! ; now the jumping koi;
Flying through the air!;
making a party snapper like "pop!'.
And splashing all around without a care.
They rise and fall,
like geisha now,
and swirl about in dance.
They tease and taunt through shadowed lines,
While we wait to catch a glance.
Of veiled and shimmering tails,
bright in sun, and gossamer in shade
But they've no sooner said "hello",
then their goodbyes are made.
To glimpse a fin, a bubbling mouth.
Oh!, the lucky happenstance!
Now petals and veils of shimmering scales,
will live in fondest summer remembrance!
