The Sweet weaver was loved by all. Really? |
Chapter: 2- The Proud Sparrow The scorching rays of the sun penetrated though the openings of the railings. The rose bushes had new blossoms blooming, which cast a magical spell in the atmosphere with a heavenly smell. Charui sat on a corner of a wide railing, munching on delicious grains of puffed rice. He was always welcome at the lawyer’s house. Mr. Hanif, a new graduate from the nearby law school had a soft corner for feathered creatures, mainly birds, in his heart. Mr. Hanif not only provided his non-human friends with delicious refreshments, but they could always fly about freely anywhere in his house. Moreover, bird baths occupied significant places of Hanif’s flat. Also, little wooden huts were placed in the garden in case the birds wanted to rest. “I’m the happiest bird in the whole wide world.” Charui used to declare wherever he went. “You praise Babui for that ugly stack of dirty hay? You say that’s artistic? Ha…hah! Well, tell him to come and live with me in the apartment, luxury will kiss his feet.” The arrogant, stout sparrow said while speaking at a bird’s meeting that day. “Brother Charui, you may think you are in a better position than me, but you know what? That little home which you simply call a haystack is my own. Unlike your home, that belongs to someone else. The somber expression on his face and his reddened cheeks were enough to manifest Babui’s extreme anger. On the other hand, Charui despised loosing in an argument. “Well, own all right, but that nest can hardly stand storms or tornados.” He shouted at the top of his voice. That quibble stayed for hours that day, until both the birds flew home. Chapter: 3 – Regrets and Realizations Summer was almost over. The irritating rays of the sun were replaced by a dark gray cloak of cloud which never forgot to cover the sky. From time to time, raindrops came down on the earth, either as light drizzles or as heavy torrents. According to Charui, Babui was supposed to pass a very bad time in the rainy season, because his nest was not protected against the frequent storms. Contrary to Charui’s opinion, Babui remained safe and sound. He had some firefly friends who used to provide the weaver bird with light on the dark, rainy nights. There were plenty of wild fruits scattered all around, so none needed to be tense about food. On the other hand, Mr. Hanif remained busy all day long with some special cases. As a result, food and shelter gradually became scarce for all the birds living in Hanif’s apartment. The lawyer could hardly manage time to look after his dear birds. One night, Charui could not find a single empty corner in the apartment he was once so proud of. All sorts of stray birds, including some crows took shelter in the apartment. Crows made Charui scared to death. As a result, the sparrow was compelled to fly away to someplace else. “Thud…” the sound of sudden thunder almost crashed Charui’s head. He still gathered up all his strength and continued flying. He had a long way to go. After about fifteen minutes, Charui landed on a palm leaf of that same palm tree where Babui resided. “Babui Bhai, there’s a wounded bird on one of the leaves.” A firefly informed the weaver. Sweet Babui could seldom tolerate anyone’s pain. “Even an enemy deserves to be forgiven, if he or she repents his or her misdeeds.” Babui used to say. Babui, with the help of the fireflies, immediately sent a message to Pipra and their other friends. Together, they helped the very badly wounded sparrow to get back on his feet once again. That was not an easy job at all, but where there was a will, there was a way. Charui had finally realized what harm a proud mind could cause to a pure soul. He had completely changed from that day. Babui and Charui had become best friends, and that strong friendship continues even today. |
