Windblown leaves (Form: Saraband)
Autumnal Dance

I watch the leaves dance in the air.
They dip and swirl without a care
ignoring me as I stand there.

The mistral’s song comes to an end;
they softly find a resting place.
In harmony, their colors blend;
a patchwork of remembered grace.

The Saraband – is a septet (7-lined stanza) form taken from a musical dance form. The form follows the dance, with a 3-lined stanza (Tercet) followed by a 4-lined stanza (Quatrain). The rhyme scheme is: a. x. a. b. c. b. c. In the Tercet, all three lines may rhyme, or you may choose to rhyme only lines one and three, as in the French version. For the purist each line is comprised of eight (8) syllables.

mistral ~ a cold, dry northern wind (typically in France but I'm taking a bit of poetic license *Smile*)
