Examining the carnage of the fray,
The bones, the scattered flames, the rising smoke,
My kind were met with victory that day.
There were no victims left alive to choke.

Yet something deep within me failed to rest,
A nearby presence dared to stalk my kin?

I'll rend his beating heart from broken chest!
AND TO MY FLESH I'LL ADD HIS DRYING SKIN!

Departing to the plains sought I my prey,
A hunter though he felt himself to be,
He stood there plainly daring me his way,
I charged at once, he stood undauntedly.

My foulest smells and roars he met with naught,
It seemed with nail and tooth he must be fought.

Yet round my neck he cast a taming noose,
And leaned himself to steady back a pull.
I rage impassion'd struggles to get loose:
He restful held the rope and let me dull.

And whence my struggle brought me to the floor,
I weary lifted eyes to meet his gaze:
A specimen of manhood tall and pure,
Not fear nor anger measur'd in his ways.

He calmly chang'd my noose out for a chain,
Which silver wrought did match my silver hide!
It feels as regal as the Kings I've slain,
He seems to recognize my royal side...

And so for decades hence if he should please,
I'll walk beside this man who tamed the beast.
